Beauty Sleep Tip #7

Cleanse your face removing all traces of makeup before bed! This is a good time to exfoliate those dead skin cells away. Thorough bedtime cleansing and exfoliating help reduce breakouts and increase absorption of night treatment products. Apply a night treatment with retinol, peptides, salicylic acid or Vitamin C formulated for your skin type. Night treatment creams are designed to work with your skin's natural repair and rejuvenation time which is at night. Since a night treatment cream does not contain sunscreen, only use it at night. Use a moisturizer containing sunscreen for day.

Fall 2011 Makeup Trend: Cheeks

Cheeks for this Fall are russet. Skin must be flawless (mine is not!) to wear russet blush due to the fact that red blush tends to bring out any redness in your skin, those inflamed capillaries and blemishes. Not so good. I'm going to stick with a nice rosy or peachy blush this Fall. Cream blush is also popular. I like that trend. It gives the cheeks a moist glow. Here are the suggestions if you would like to try the red cheek trend.

Self Tanner Tips

Hold on to your summer glow with self tanning products. They come in many forms: lotions, mousses and sprays. Here are the steps for a juicy tan:

1. Exfoliate your skin well with a dry body brush or a body scrub in the shower. Concentrate on thick skin areas such as the feet, knees and elbows.  Use a facial exfoliant for your face.

2. Apply a light film of moisturizer to your entire body. This will help prevent pores from darkening too much causing them to stand out.

3. Apply an oil or thick moisturizer to feet, knees elbows and other areas of thickened skin so they don't get too dark.

4.Wear gloves to keep your palms from turning too dark during application.

5. Apply self tanner. I love Fake Bake Sunless Airbrush. You spray it on and it leaves a tan color so you can see where the product is on your skin. Now use your gloved hands to smooth out the spray in a circular motions. Be careful where you are while applying your spray tan. The over spray gets everywhere!  I like to spray tan outside or in the shower with the shower curtain closed so I can wash off the shower when I am done.  Spray tanner onto a sponge then apply it to your face.  People with sensitive skin should do a patch test  before application.

6. Avoid contact with water for 4-6 hours.  The initial colorant will wash off but a nice tan will remain.  It will gradually wear off as a real tan does.  Fake Bake is not tested on animals. A 7oz. Airbrush Self Tanning Spray is about $30.00 in salons and at various websites.

Congratulations! You have landed on an early blog post on the Juicy Beauty Word! My thought was to create short and sweet easy to read posts. I think they were a bit too short. I have come a long way in my blogging giving you lots more content and pics. Click here to see my current posts.

Thanks for reading!

Q&A: Apples of Cheeks?

Q. I always heard that blush should be applied to the "apples" of your cheeks. What exactly does that mean?

A. The "apple" of your cheek is that nice round part of the cheek you see when you smile. Apply a nice coral, pink or rose blush for a natural look on the apples of your cheeks. Bronzer is applied below the apples to create a contoured look.
You can wear bronzer and blush, just bronzer or just blush. The choice is yours. Apply bronzer around the outside edges of your forehead, the temples, under your cheekbones and under your jaw.  Now smile. Put your blush on those nice round apples! Concentrate the color on the apples but feather it out over the cheekbones towards your temples to soften and blend it.  The blush needs to be soft and blended to avoid looking like you have round clown like circles drawn on your cheeks.

Thermage

Q. What is Thermage and is it safe?

A. Thermage is a radio frequency anti aging treatment designed to stimulate collagen production with deep heat. It tightens the skin and softens lines and wrinkles. Radio frequency use is safe and Thermage is approved by the FDA. It can be done on the face and body.

People say the results can be subtle and not really noticeable for 2-6 months because collagen has to build up. It is painful but a facial treatment only takes about 45 minutes. The one thing that makes me leery about it is, I have heard for years now that it can effect the fat in your skin causing the face to look more sunken in or leaving it looking dimpled as with acne scarring.

I checked into it and the fat problems seem to be associated with older machines that were using too much energy. Thermage can only be performed by a doctor not an esthetician. Therefore, only go a very experienced doctor not a laser med spa. Ask about the machine being used making sure that it is a newer machine. Go http://www.thermage.com/ for more details and to find a physician. I found real self to be a great site for questions and answers about Thermage and other treatments. http://www.realself.com/site/search?q=thermage#q=thermage

Wearing White after Labor Day

sexy shoes and white pants

"Is it okay to wear white after Labor Day?" Well, the fashion experts say that is an old fashioned rule made to be broken! I love white coats, warm white sweaters, crisp white shirts, even white pants in the winter. They all look great!

There are a few white rules, however. When you wear white, make sure the  fabric that suits the season. For example, don't wear light weight white cotton pants in the fall and winter. Heavy weight white jeans will work well when paired with beautifully colored fall and winter sweaters. Don't wear white shoes. Go with nude. No white handbags please, and never wear white pantyhose, ever!

So the answer is yes, you can wear white after Labor Day. Enjoy it and wear it well.
