Texting Gloves

I hate the cold weather! I especially hate having to take my glove off to text a message. Guess what? No more cold hands. We don't have to take a glove off anymore thanks to touch screen gloves. These Isotoner Smart Touch Gloves are stretchy and comfortable and have conductive thread on the index finger and thumb that conveys electrical impulses to a touch screen.

How cool is that?

Spring 2012 Makeup Trends

I always like to look ahead on these cold winter days! Here are some fun Spring makeup trends to look forward to.

Red Lips!

All shades of red, soft and bold. Red red. Orange red. Chocolate red. Fuchsia red. If it's a shade of red, it's in!
Rosy Nude Lips!

Not a fan of red lips?
Go Rosy nude!

Glowy Skin!

Get out the bronzer and the peach blush! Skin is moist and glowy with flushed, sun kissed peach bronzed cheeks.

Bold Eyes!
Brows are still thick, well shaped and bold for Spring. Keep them well groomed by having them waxed regularly. Fill them in with brow powder then, hold them in place with brow gel.

Cat Eyes!

Add a winged-up liner lift to the outer corner of your eye. Try a glittery touch of white, silver or gray eye shadow.

Or Go Smokey!

The smokey eye is still hot!

Doll Lashes!
Exaggerate your lashes with false lashes or lots of mascara.

Pops of Color!
Start with a monochromatic nude face then add a pop of color such as, blue, emerald turquoise, gold or orange,to your eyes.

Dry Cuticles

handnail
So many of my clients experience dry splitting nails and dry cuticles with lots of hangnails in the winter.  The dry winter air and too much exposure to water is to blame.

Keep your hands out of water as much as possible, apply lots of moisturizer throughout the day and wear your gloves, warm winter gloves outside and rubber gloves for cleaning and doing dishes.

Heal dry cracked cuticles by applying cuticle oil or just plain olive oil to them, then layer on a healing balm such as petroleum jelly or Balmex before bed.

You can also try cuticle oil. CND Solar Oil is a fabulous nail and cuticle oil you can also try.  I use it on my clients during their manicures. It contains nourishing oils, Jojoba, Almond and Vitamin E, that penetrate and protect the nails and skin. Find it in salons and spas for about $9.00 for a 7.3ml (.25 oz) bottle.

Diets for the New Year

Looking for a diet for the New Year? US News and World Reports asked a team of weight loss and nutrition experts to evaluate and rank popular diet plans.

The best? The DASH Diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension).

#2? The TLC Diet (Therapeutic Lifestyle Diet).

Other diets that ranked high were Weight Watchers, The Mayo Clinic Diet and The Mediterranean Diet. The Dukan Diet and The Paleo (caveman) diet came in at the bottom of the list! Go to http://health.usnews.com/best-diet/best-overall-diets to see the entire list of diets and their rankings.
