The Cold and Longer Life

I hate the cold, but as it turns out, it may help us live longer! A study at the University of Michigan suggests that lowering out body temperature reduces the rate of chemical reactions slowing the aging process. The study found that cold air activates a receptor (the TRPA1 channel) found in nerve and fat cells causing a chain of signaling which ultimately stimulates a gene (DAF-16/FOXO) associated with longevity. And eat your sushi! The wasabi that goes with it also stimulates the TRPA1. So I guess, if you want to live longer, sit outside on a cold winter day and eat sushi with lots of wasabi!
