Makeup tested on animals

Q. I see you recommend Urban Decay a lot. Did you know that they are owned by a company, L'Oreal, that tests on animals? Why do you buy it?

A. Even though Urban Decay is owned by L'Oreal, they run as they did before they were purchased by L'Oreal. Urban Decay remains cruelty free and has signed a No Animal Testing Statement. This is true of many other brands as well including OPI. It is now owned by Coty yet remains cruelty free. We, the consumers, need to support these brands and let the parent companies know that we will only buy their brands that are not tested on animals.

We, the consumers, have an enormous amount of power that we don't use. If we all refuse to buy products tested on animals, it will have to stop. There is no US law that says cosmetic and personal care products have to be tested on animals. These big companies need us to buy their products. You have to let them know.

Check your brands at the Caring Consumer.

Send an email to the big companies, such as L'Oreal, and let them know you are only buying their brands that are not tested on animals. Here is a link to L'Oreal's brand page. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see a contact us. It is very easy to send off a quick email and the company will respond to you.

Devine Goddess Lipstick

My latest beauty bargain...........Napoleon Perdis Devine Goddess Lipstick. I haven't tried it before. It's a higher end lipstick that sells for $24. I got it for $12 at the Ulta's 21 days of beauty. I chose the shade Calapso, a fabulous fuchsia.

This lipstick has a lot of pigment, which I love, and contains Vitamins C & E and aloe along with other various oils and waxes. It feels smooth and moist on my lips and lasted fairly well. I like it.

I checked with the company and they assured me there is absolutely no animal testing done with Napoleon Perdis Products and it is made in USA. I'm thinking I may need to get another color! The shade Anna is looking good!

Tip from Napoleon: "Apply liner after -not before- lipstick to create a more natural and defined lip look."

Bronze up your Foundation

Is your summer color fading? Give your foundation a bronzy glow by adding a little mineral bronzing powder to it.

I like to pour a bit of foundation in the palm of my hand then sprinkle bronzing powder in it and mix it with my finger. The bronzing powder warms up your regular foundation .

Apply the foundation as usually with your fingers, makeup sponge or foundation brush. Try Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals All Over Face Color in Warmth, $19.00 at Sephora and Ulta.

*Juicy tip!!!!
Get it for $10 at Ulta's 21 days of beauty on September 21!

Which polish color makes you look younger?

OPI Red nail polish
Q. What nail polish colors can I wear to help make my hands look younger?

A. Wearing the wrong nail polish color is unflattering and can actually make you hands look older. Help your hands look younger by wearing soft reds, coral reds, soft corals, medium pinks, warm mauves, nudes and pinky beiges in a soft shimmer or creamy finish.

Choose a shade that flatters your skin tone. Cool toned skin colors are flattered by cooler toned polish. Warm toned skin colors look better with warmer colors.

Avoid highly frosted colors such a frosted white. Not only is it old fashioned, it accentuates nail ridges.

Avoid dark colors or shades of blue red, plum, blue or green that can accentuate the veins and redness in your hands.

Have a beautiful day!

Perfect Blush

Do you find your blush or bronzer goes on blotchy and streaky?

Apply it smoothly and evenly by allowing your layers to set.

Apply your moisturizer, then wait 5-10 minutes for it to absorb.

Apply your foundation.

Do your eyes while you wait 5-10 minutes for the foundation to set.

Then, apply powder bronzer and blush with a brush in a circular motion.

OhNo....Breakout!

Anyone else out there dealing with the late summer breakout?
It happens to me every year late summer/early fall. My skin breakouts like crazy. According to the American Academy of dermatology, acne affects 40-50 million of us in the US making it the most common skin disorder.

I'm stepping up my cleanser to a salicylic cleanser. I like Alba Botanica Deep Pore Wash. I also like their spot treatment too, the Invisible Treatment Gel.

Extra applications of clay mask always help to clear a breakout.  I like YonKa Masque 103 and Ahava Purifying Mud Mask. Both work wonders.

Wedding Day Salon Tips

Brides, make the beauty prep on your wedding day faster and easier by having beauty professionals get you and your bridal party ready. It is so much quicker and less stressful for you plus, the professionals know how to make you look simply magnificent!

Be sure to have a trial hairstyle and makeup done one month before your wedding.

Take your veil with you to the trial along with any hairstyle pictures and makeup ideas. By doing a trial, you will save time.  Your hairstylist and makeup artist will know exactly what to do on your wedding day.

Arrive to the salon on time. The schedule is usually booked tight to get everyone ready and out on time.

Have each person check in at the desk and find out who is doing their hair and their makeup and the times. This helps keep everyone organized and on time.

Be sure to wear a button down shirt or zippered sweatshirt to the salon on wedding day. A bride may have to cut her T shirt off at home to avoid wrecking her hair and makeup!

A formal hairstyle and veil attachment will take about an hour. Bridesmaid formal hairstyles will take 45 minutes to an hour.

Makeup will take 45 minutes to an hour depending on the details such as, if you want to add individual lash flairs, strip lashes or tattoo coverage.

Don't forget your camera! It's always fun to have some getting ready pics.

It's always an exciting day in the salon when there is a bride! The bride is the center of attention in the fun party atmosphere as she is primped and pampered!

If you choose, many hairstylists and makeup artists will come to your home or your wedding venue to get you ready on your wedding day. Be sure to have your makeup and hair trials done in the salon so the beauty pros know exactly what supplies they need to bring to get you ready.

Have a Beautiful Day!

Lose Weight. Eat Breakfast!

Many of us need to shed a few pounds after all those summer barbeques and cocktails. Here is some good news: eating a
high carb breakfast that included a little something sweet helped dieters lose more weight. It also helped them feel less hungry and helped control cravings according to a recent study. A hormone called ghrelin, which signals hungers, dropped more for those in the study who ate the sweet high carb breakfast. A little chocolate for breakfast sounds good to me!
