Q&A Mascara Tip: Clumping

Q.  Help! I'm having a problem with my mascara clumping. What can I do?

A. Try a lengthening mascara. A lengthening mascara is designed to create more length than volume. This helps reduce the chance of clumping because it is not building up thickness. Also, lengthening mascaras usually have a comb type applicator reducing the chance for clumping.
Here are a few good lengthening mascaras in a variety of prices:

Wet N Wild Mega Lengths $3.00
Victoria's Secret Runway Length Mascara $14.00
Bare Minerals Flawless Definition Curl and Lengthen Mascara $18.00
Laura Mercier Long Lash Mascara $24.00

Try combing your lashes before you apply your mascara. Take your time applying. Wiggle the mascara wand from side to side as you apply from root to tip. One well applied coat should to the trick. You increase the chance of clumping as you apply more coats.

If you must have more coats, let the first coat dry before applying the next. Also, get rid of your mascara after 3 months. Not only can it have bacteria growing in it, it gets dried out and can clump more.
