The Best Top Coat

I hate when I smudge my polish. Like most people, I can be very impatient waiting for polish to dry.
My favorite remedy: Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat.  It's my favorite quick dry top coat.  It dries super fast and glossy.
You can polish your nails, go to bed and wake up with no sheet marks.  It dries that fast. It is formaldehyde and DBP free and is not tested on animals.  You can find it at salons, some drug stores, and beauty stores such as Ulta for about $10.00. Love it!!

How to stop blush from fading

Blush can sometimes fade away from your cheeks in the summer heat. Give it more staying power by using both cream and powder blushes.
Blend a cream blush onto your cheeks with your fingers or a makeup sponge. Let it set for 5 minutes.

Apply a light dusting of translucent powder with a powder brush to cheeks and the rest of your face.
Then, apply a powder blush with a blush brush right on top.
Choose two similar colors or try 2 different colors for a dimensional look. Try a pink cream blush topped with a shimmery peach powder blush. It creates a beautiful glow.

Peppermint Coconut Sugar Scrub Recipe

One of the most beneficial treatments to make your skin beautiful and glowing in a hurry is exfoliation. Exfoliation scrubs off old dead skin cells that look dull and gray, helps unclog pores, stimulates circulation and promotes collagen production.

One of my favorite body scrubs is a peppermint coconut sugar scrub. You can easily make this scrub at home using 3 ingredients you can get right in your grocery store.

Coconut Oil moisturizes the skin and provides antioxidants to help skin look younger and healthier. It comes in a jar and is a solid that melts to a liquid at warmer temperatures.

Sugar provides the grit to slough away dead skin.

Peppermint is uplifting and produces a cooling effect. It is anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and decongestant.

    1/2 cup granulated white sugar
    1/2 cup coconut oil
10 drops peppermint essential oil or 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract

Mix ingredients together in a bowl or measuring cup.

I mix in a measuring cup for easy pouring. I like to transfer the scrub into 3 oz. travel size squeeze dispensers instead of jars. You can get them at Bed, Bath and Beyond.  A funnel makes the transfer into the dispenser easy.

The squeeze dispensers are easy to use in the shower, they keep the scrub from getting contaminated with bacteria and such and you can easily take them with you while traveling.

Tips on using coconut oil in the shower:
1. Your tub or shower can become slippery when you use oil while showering. Put a towel on the floor of your shower or in the tub to stand on to keep from slipping.

2. Coconut oil is a solid when cool. It becomes liquid when warm. If you have trouble squeezing the scrub out of the tube, put it in the shower. The warm water will help it liquefy so you can squeeze it from the tube easily.

Hide Wrinkles with Makeup

Q. How can I hide my lines and wrinkles with makeup?

 A. Start with skin care. Treat your skin with an anti aging serum followed by a good moisturizer to hydrate the skin. The skin will look better and the moisture will help smooth and plump up lines and wrinkles.

Use a face primer before applying a thin layer of foundation. Primers usually contain a silicone type ingredient that will float on top of lines, kind of filling them in, making them less noticeable.

Apply foundation using a foundation brush or a sponge. Apply the thinnest layer possible that still gives you the coverage you need.

Apply concealer with a thin brush on top of the foundation only where needed.  Use a concealer color a little lighter than your foundation. Fill in the lines using the thin brush.  Then, lightly pat with your finger to blend.

Using too much makeup will settle in the lines and wrinkles making them more obvious.

Finish with a light dusting of powder to set the makeup.

Too Faced Better Than False Lashes: How to Apply

I have been using Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Nylon Lash Extension System. I really love it. It does much more than a regular mascara and it kind of does resemble false lashes. I read a lot of reviews about it. People seem to love it or hate it. I can see why people would hate it. It isn't a mascara you can quickly apply and go. It takes some time to work with. I like it because it really does makes my lashes look longer. I have found it is best to do one eye at a time. Do the top lashes only. The mascara is very sticky and takes some time to dry. When you apply it to the top and bottom lashes, they stick together easily. It's quite annoying. Use a regular mascara on the bottom. Start by curling your lashes.

Step 1: Apply a coat of Activating Mascara Base and Top Coat to the top lashes. Apply a nice even coat. Be fairly generous with it. Try to keep the lashes as separated as possible during application. Also, direct the lashes carefully where you want them to be. The mascara is very sticky so lashes can stick together easily. Don't wiggle the wand.

Step 2: Apply the nylon lash fibers. They are white fibers. Apply them from mid lash to the lash tips, concentrating on the tips. The fibers stick easily to the mascara. Do a nice even layer.  Again, don't wiggle the wand. Don't over do it either or it will be hard to hide all the fibers and your lashes can look fuzzy.
Step 3: Apply another coat of the Activating Mascara Base and Top Coat. Take your time and keep this layer on the thin side. Coat the fibers and work them out to the ends of your lashes. You have got to work with it to seal the fibers so the lashes don't look fuzzy. Don't wiggle the wand. Pull the wand from the base of your lashes to the tip. The fibers will stretch out with the mascara wand. I sometimes use the tip of the mascara wand to really seal in and pull the fibers on a particular lash. Sometimes I get a ridiculously long one that a need to pull off.

Step 4: This is my own step. I like to add a coat of a regular lengthen mascara on top. My favorite inexpensive brand is Wet n Wild Mega Lengths. The regular mascara continues to seal the fibers while keeping the lashes from looking clumpy. It also help stop the stickiness.

I sometimes use a lash comb or dry mascara spooly to separate lashes that have stuck together too much.  I have to be careful not to pull off the extension, though.

That's it. They tell you can repeat steps 2 & 3. I don't. The lashes start to clump and get that thick spidery look.

The mascara is water resistant but not waterproof. It comes off with "soap and water". It can make a smeary mess though. I like to wet my face in the shower. Then, I use my thumb and index finger to gently work the mascara off. Use an eye makeup remover to remove the rest.

Another thing I find is the warm air from a blow dryer while drying your hair softens the lashes and makes them sticky again. Do your hair styling before you apply.

Find it at Ulta, Sephora and toofaced.com for $35.00.

Food that is Sunscreen

Eating foods rich in anti-oxidants will provide a bit of sun protection. Plant foods are full of antioxidant compounds. Plants produce certain antioxidants to protect themselves from UV rays.

We get sun protection benefits by eating the fruits and veggies from those plants. Eating anti oxidant foods does not replace sunscreen, though. These foods give us extra protection and also fight cancer causing free radicals.

Eat richly color fruits and veggies. They contain high levels of anti oxidants.

Fruits and veggies that are yellow and orange, such as orange and yellow bell peppers, sweet potatoes, carrots and mangos. contain cartenoids.

Fruits and veggies that are red, such as beets, watermelon, tomatoes, red bell peppers, pomegranates and strawberries are high in lycopene.

Blue and purple fruits such as blueberries and pomegranates

contain anthocyanins

Leafy Greens such as spinach, kale and swiss chard are high in oxygenated caroteniod compounds. Broccoli is high in the anti oxidant sulphoraphane

Then there is green tea with polyphenol catechins and cocoa with it's Flavenols.

There are lots more. Here is a link to a great list of natural sun protectors for more reading.

Heal a Bruise Quicker

Got an ugly bruise? Here are some tips to help it fade quicker

Ice when first injured. After 24 hours, apply a warm compress several times each day to the bruise to increase circulation and speed elimination of the blood under the skin.

Apply Arnica Gel. It is great for helping bruises heal quicker. Arnica is an herb with strong anti-inflammatory properties used in ointment and cream preparations to treat strains, sprains and bruises.

You can find it in health food stores. Massage preparation gently onto the bruise 2-3 times a day to help the bruise feel better and heal a little faster.

Deodorant Mark Remover

The weather is finally getting warmer and all the cute little tops and dresses are coming out. Those white deodorant marks on those cute summer clothes just ruin the look, though. I saw this deodorant removing sponge in Bed, Bath and Beyond the other day. Sounds like a good idea.

Rub the deodorant mark with the dry sponge and it easily disappears. It will also remove pet hairs and makeup powder from the neckline of your clothes.

Shadow Fallout Remedy

Love doing a smoky eye but hate the shadow fallout? Me too! The under eye area just doesn't look clean and sharp once dark eye shadow has landed on it. Here is a great little gadget to protect your skin from looking all smudgy.....Shadow Shields.
They have an adhesive backing and fit under your eyes. The shield catches the falling shadow. Just remove the shield and your skin is nice and clean.

Find them at Bed Bath and Beyond. Check link below for more retailers.
