Anti Aging Skin Care for a body part you don't think of

There is a body part that most (if no all) of us seem to neglect in our beauty regimens. Can you guess what it is?
gold and silver earring
It's the ears & earlobes!!!

I have heard that the ears continue to grow as we age. That seems to be true when you see old guys with those big, big ears! The ears don't really grow. It can seem like they grow but what is really happening is they are stretching. They stretch due to the breakdown of the elastin and collagen in cartilage that makes up the ears and that ever present pull of gravity. The earlobes can get saggy just like the skin on any other part of our body. UV damage from the sun causes more elastin and collagen breakdown. So what's a girl to do to keep the ears from getting big and flappy? Add the ears to your anti aging skincare routine.

Serum
Apply an anti aging serum to your earlobes as well as your face to help keep them firm and help prevent sagging.

Anti Aging Cream
Use an anti aging face cream on your earlobes as well as your face after the application of the anti aging serum. Retinol, peptides and hyaluronic acid are great anti aging ingredients to look for in anti aging creams.

Sunscreen
Apply daytime moisturizer and/or sunscreen to your face and ears daily to prevent sun damage. Your daytime moisturizer should contain sunscreen.

Light Weight Earrings
Avoid wearing heavy earrings that pull and stretch the earlobes.

Eat Healthy
Eat lots of fruits and veggies that are full of Vitamin C and anti oxidants to fight free radicals and help the body make collagen.

It's a never ending anti aging battle! Everyday. Keep on fighting.

Types of Bikini Waxing made Easy

Brazilian wax
The Hollywood, The Sphinx, The French, The Playboy. There are so many different names for the various styles of bikini waxing, it makes life confusing. I've been waxing people for more than 30 years and even I'm confused!

Let's make it simple shall we?

There are three basic types of bikini waxing. The Bikini Line Waxing, The Full Bikini Waxing and The Brazilian Waxing. All can vary a bit according to how much hair you want removed. Hair can be removed from the front section (the pubic bone area), the middle section (the labia area) and the back section (between the butt cheeks).

Click here to watch my bikini wax video!

The Bikini Line Wax
Hair is removed from outside of the panty line and just inside the panty line, top and sides. You get a cleaned up triangle shape,

Full Bikini Wax

Hair is removed from the front and the middle far inside the panty line. It's high on the sides. You can have a landing strip. This can be a French bikini wax which means most of the hair is removed from the front leaving a landing strip and the hair is removed from the middle, but not from the back.

The Brazilian Wax

The hair is removed from the front and back and everything in between for a bare look. "Make me bald!" as one of my clients says. You can leave a small triangle or small landing strip in front which is quite popular right now. The Brazilian wax is also called The Hollywood or The Sphinx. The Playboy wax is a Brazilian with a landing strip.

If you have never had a bikini wax, I recommend to start with a bikini line wax or a conservative full bikini wax to get you used to the bikini waxing process. You can always take more off at your next waxing appointment.

Unibrow Removal for Children

Over the years, I have had clients ask me "what's the best way to remove my child's unibrow. She will be starting school and I don't want other kids to make fun of her". Other kids can be mean! Little ones have sensitive skin and are afraid of hair removal so unibrow removal is a sticky situation. Speaking of sticky...haha...waxing is my #1 unibrow removal choice for adults. But a kid may not go for waxing.  Keep in mind, waxing and tweezing weaken hair over time making hair finer and less noticeable. Let's explore the hair removal options for kids.

Waxing
Waxing the center of the brows is quick and easy. It will last about 3-4 weeks. A child's sensitive skin may get very red after waxing but the redness should fade within an hour. There is also a chance of a rashy breakout on sensitive skin. The sensation of waxing is like a bandaid being pulled off, a sensation that kids hate so it may not be the best option. It is super quick though. I recommend visiting the salon for waxing. A waxing professional know tricks to help make a waxing less painful. This is the most effective option and it doesn't have to be done so often, if your child will do it!

There are some cold waxes you can try at home if you would like to tackle the unibrow yourself. Cold wax is less messy than hot wax. A better choice for home use. I recommend Sally Hansen hair remover wax strips. The strips are plastic strips preloaded with wax. Choose the right strip size. A strip that is too large will remove too much hair. Warm the strip in your hands. Peel the strip apart. Press it on and pull it off. Follow the direction that come with the kit.

Tweezing
We all know about tweezing. Ouch! That's the problem for a kid. It pulls the hair out by the root like waxing but it takes time to pull hairs out one by one. A kid will not tolerate this well at all. It hurts, the eyes water, it can trigger sneezing. I suggest applying an ice cube to the unibrow area before tweezing to numb it a bit. The good thing is it's easy to do at home. Not the best option due to the pain factor.

Depilatory
A depilatory is a chemical hair remover that dissolves the hair just below skin level. Nair and Neet are depilatories. It is a painless procedure but it is a chemical and a child's sensitive skin may react with a rash. One of my client's used a Bliss hair removal product and her daughter had a burn like reaction. I recommend Surgi cream if you would like to try a depilatory. It is the most gentle one that I know of. It will only last a few days so the process will need to be done at least once a week. This is a good option if your child's skin is not too sensitive.

Bleaching
The hair can be bleached to make it less noticeable. The hair is still there but it is lighter. This is also a painless process but it is a chemical that sensitive skin can react to. A cream bleach (made for the face of course!) is mixed and applied to the unibrow area and left on for 5 or so minutes. Bleach can be removed by wiping. If hair is not light enough, repeat the process. There will be roots that show as the hair grows so the process will need to be done about every other week. I recommend Jolen Cream Bleach. It has been around forever and it's gentle and effective. This is not a bad option if your child's skin is not too sensitive.

Shaving
We all know this hair removal process well! The unibrow can be removed with a small shaver designed for facial use. The shavers can be electric or a razor blade. Shaving is painless but doesn't last very long. There is also the stubble factor and the itching that can occur with shaving. The unibrow will need attention every few days. It's not the best option because of stubble, itching and the frequency it needs to be done.

Many of the options I listed are home care options. If you do not want to tackle depilatories and bleaching at home, check with your salon. They may be able to provide the service for you.

Bridal Makeup Trends for 2016

pink bridal makeup
The overall makeup look for brides this year is fresh, clean and rosy pink. Think Rose Quartz. It's one of the Pantone colors of the year. Focus is on the eyes with a soft lip and rosy cheeks.

Skin

Skin looks bright and fresh. Foundation should provide natural looking coverage and look just a little dewy not shiny.

Eyes

Eyes can be simple and shimmery or winged and smokey slept in for brides this year. Shades of nude and brown eye shadows remain popular. There is a lot of emphasis on lashes. Black mascara and falsies create long fluttery lashes.

Brows

The strong brow is still the trend. Brows are thick, well shaped and filled in with brow pencil or brow powder.

Cheeks

Blush colors are soft shades of rose and coral. Cheeks can also have a stained blush look. Contouring is subtle to avoid a muddy look.  Highlighting with a shimmer luminizer also is subtle to avoid a shininess.

Lips

Lips are soft glossy shades pink. berry and coral. Lip stain is also popular.

Valentine's Day Decor and Lipstick!

Valentine's Day is quickly approaching. It's a time for romance or at least creating a romantic look which translates into using shades of pinks, reds and roses in your home and in your makeup.

Valentine's Day Decor Mono Chromatic Pale pink
I like this mono chromatic pale pink look. For lips too!

But for this Valentine's Day, I am in search of the perfect shade of rose lipstick.

Not too pink and not too red.

red lips

A sort of raspberry shade that has been elusive for me. I have mixed it, but I would like to find it in a single lipstick tube. It would be easier to carry just one lipstick with me on date nights instead of two or three that need to mixed together. I will begin my quest to find the perfect shade of rose lipstick at Ulta. There may be a nice Urban Decay or NYX color. I will keep you posted on any developments with lipstick names and pics, maybe even a video!
