Swimwear Trends 2016

It's time to start shopping for our summer swimwear. You've got to get it now because by the time summer actually rolls around, the suits are all picked over.

There are a lot of interesting trends this year. I am intrigued that the high on the sides one piece has made a come back, most likely due to the Baywatch movie. I wore a hot pink one on my honeymoon. My husband always loved that style!
I find this off the shoulder style interesting, too.

We are going to need two important things this summer, lots of sunscreen to prevent all the funky tan lines this year's swimsuit are going to create and lots of bikini waxing!

See me for your perfect bikini wax!

You will see lots of sexy stringy details in swimwear for 2016: stringy backs, stringy sides, braided and macrame details. There are also cuts outs, peek-a-boos and vertically laced up fronts.

Flounce tops and lace are also trending for swimwear.

In the bold department, we have bright colors, geometric prints, color blocking and stripes.

There are lots of suits with nice little metallic stripes, shapes and strings, too.

There is still a little fringe out there and also small ruffles, but not the big ruffles we have seen in the past couple years.

If you are feeling a bit modest, try the 50's retro style or a tankini or maybe high neck style in a one or two piece suit. The suits in my pics are from a few different stores, Victoria Secret, Aerie and Target. I just realized you can find some cute suits at great prices on Amazon. Who knew?

Zoya Petals Spring 2016

Zoya gives us a beautiful soft collection of nail polish colors this spring. The collection is Petals. I can see the Pantone Color of the Year influence!
Zoya Petals Collection swatches
Leia is a sheer opalescent white. It has flecks of fuchsia, green and gold. It looks very shimmery pink on me. This color fits right in with the trend of wearing a sheer glittery nail color. It would also look beautiful on top of a color.
Zoya Petals Collection Leia
Aster is a periwinkle with flecks of fuchsia.

Azalea is a medium fuchsia pink with fuchsia and white shimmer.

Zahara is bright shimmery coral with a bit of opalescence.

Tulip is a creamy pink salmon with a barely there shimmer.

How tame hair static

Hello friends! Is your hair acting wild and crazy like mine?
static hair
The calendar says it's spring but my dry staticky hair says it still feels like winter. We need a little humidity. Just a little. Went it gets too humid here in Philly, we all complain! There are a few easy things we can try to help calm that fly away hair till the humidity comes!

A Shaving Brush & Hairspray

Calm static like the hair stylists on professional photo shoots. Spray on a little hairspray then use a good old fashioned shaving brush to gently smooth down the hairs without disturbing your hairstyle. My favorite hairspray is Paul Mitchell Freeze and Shine. Find it in salons and on Amazon. Find shaving brushes in the shaving cream section at your favorite drug store or super store.

Conditioner

Always use a good conditioner at every shampoo. Well hydrated hair will be less fly away. You can also try a leave in conditioner. A leave in conditioner leaves moisturizers on the hair that reduce static. Apply  a leave in conditioner to clean damp hair, don't rinse, then blow dry and style your hair. The Conditioner by Paul Mitchell is a great leave in conditioner. It also works as a lotion for your skin!

Hair Oil

A little hair oil works wonders. Put a small amount of a hair oil, such as Moroccan Oil, in your hand. Work it into your hair. It works on dry hair as well as wet hair. Hair serums work too. Many hair serums are silicon based instead of oil based. Try Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum.

Ionic Blow Dryer

Use an ionic blow dryer to calm the static. Iconic blow dryers emit negative ions. Staticky hair is charged up with positive ions. The negative ions attach themselves to the positive ions and calm the static. An added bonus, ionic blow dryers help make your hair shinier.

Dryer Sheets

Use a dryer sheet to gently smooth down fly away hairs. Or rub a dryer sheet on your hair brush before brushing your hair. Dryer sheets are also great for calming static in your clothes. Rub them on that clingy shirt and the cling goes away.

Metal Comb

Use a wide tooth metal comb instead of a plastic comb. The metal helps reduce the electric charge in your hair. A comb also creates less static than a brush.

Hand Lotion

If you don't have any hair products handy, try a bit of hand lotion. Put a little bit of hand lotion in your hand, rub your hands together to distribute it so there is a light film of lotion on your hands. Now lightly smooth down the staticky hairs with your hands.

Spring/Summer Beauty Trends for 2016

Spring is here. I don't know about you, but that makes me very happy!!! As always, there are some beauty tends taken from the spring fashion runways that we will be using for not only spring, but summer too. The runway looks can be extreme at times but we can use toned down versions for real life. Here are some fun trends for makeup and hair.

zoya leia

Sheer Glitter Polish

Use 1 coat of glittery nail polish to create a subtle barely there shimmering look on your nails. Use a base coat, one coat of sheer shimmer or glitter polish then a top coat. Layers give your polish more staying power. Zoya makes some perfect barely there shimmering nail polishes. This is Leia.

blue liner
Blue Eyeliner

We have seen this tend for quite sometime now. Shades of blue eyeliner. It can be robin's egg blue, cobalt, navy or
sapphire. Choose the shade that excites and flatters you.

NYX makes a bunch of pretty blue eyeliners.

Fucshia lips

Bold Lips

We have also seen this fun trend for awhile. The bold lip. Try a deep wine, a fire engine red, a bright coral or a hot pink. I am loving Urban Decay Catfight!
Blue shadow and glitter lashes

Glittery Eyelids

Add some shimmer and glitter eye shadow to your eyelids. It brings flattering light to your eyes and it's just plain fun!
strip lashes

Long Lashes

Long fluttery lashes are still all the rage.  Use a lengthen mascara or use falsies. Also, lashes can have a bit of bling to go with your glitter eye shadow. Try some strip lashes that have some sparkle to them. Ardell makes some fun ones.

bold brow

Bold Brows

Brows remain bold, well shaped and filled in. Have your brow shaped at the salon so you don't go over tweeze them yourself

foundation brush

Fresh Skin

Your foundation should look clean and natural. Not too shiny and not too matte. Choose a foundation color that matches your skin tone. Apply it with a sponge or a foundation brush for good but natural looking coverage. Finish with a light dusting of powder. Add a bit of rosy blush to your cheeks.

ponytail

Ponytails

We love this trend! It's fresh and easy. If your ponytail slides easily, try spraying on a little dry shampoo all over your hair then brushing it through to add more grip.

Use fabric covered elastic bands to help prevent hair breakage.

top knot

Top Knots

Those messy top knots are still in I am happy to say. Another great looking easy hair style!  Pull your hair up, twist it and secure it with French hair pins. Try spraying on a little dry shampoo all over your hair then brush it through to improve the grip.
side braid

Tight Braids

Braids have been a bit messy in the past. This year they are tighter and cleaner. Add a bit of oil to your hair to control the fly aways and add sleekness. Pull your hair back into a ponytail. Make a braid, secure the end and spray it with hairspray to help keep it in place.

pink and purple hair
Styling Point

Fashion Hair Colors

I love this colorful trend! Cover your whole head with a rainbow of color or just add streaks of color throughout your hair. Pink, lavender, aqua. Whatever strikes your fancy.

These are just trends. Use them or create your own trends!

Be creative. Be happy. Be beautiful. Be yourself.

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick Review & Application

I've been looking for the perfect shade of rose lipstick for some time now. A cross between a pink and a red. I don't know why it's been so hard for me to find. I find a lipstick color I think would be it but it turns out to be too fuchsia, too red or even too coral. I found one that is almost perfect. I say almost because it turns a little more red on me than I want it to.

It's Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Catfight. Urban Decay describes it as a pink-fuchsia with slight red undertone. Here is is on my daughter.

It seems to look great on different skin tones. It works well for me with my medium beige skin, but I think it looks even better on my daughter's pale creamy skin!

I put together a little video review to let you know what think of Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick and give you a few tips. You know I love Urban Decay Primer Potion, Eye Shadows and Foundation. The video also includes an application of the lipstick so you can see how it looks on me and my daughter. Plus, you get to hear my daughter sing!!!

Botox vs Restylane

injection on face
We hate our wrinkles and some of us will try anything to get rid of them! Creams, peels, lasers, injectables even surgery. Lots of my clients are interested in injectables because you get a good result quickly. Since I work in the skin care business, the big question I always get asked  is, "what is the difference between Botox and Restylane?". Both treat wrinkles but in different ways. They both need to be done by a doctor and both are a bit pricey. The doctor can be any type of doctor, even a dentist will do. Here they are in a nut shell.

Botox Cosmetic
Botox Cosmetic is Botulinum Toxin type A. Yes, it is a toxin and yes, Botox is made from the same bacteria that causes the food poisoning called Botulism. The bacteria is Clostridium botulinum. A little scary, right? They say it is safe to use because Botox Cosmetic contains only tiny amounts of purified botulinum toxin protein. Okay, purified toxin? Well, I have had lots of clients get it done and they are just fine.

It is injected into the muscle to temporarily block or paralyze nerve impulses that move the muscle. The muscle won't move so it won't cause lines due to expression. Those expression lines that you have, such as lines between the eyebrows, soften due to the lack of movement. It is mainly used on the upper half of the face where wrinkles are caused by muscle movements, you know, those frown lines, forehead wrinkles and crows feet. I have seen the skin on the forehead's of some clients become amazingly smooth...till it wears off!

There can be temporary swelling and bruising from the injections. It lasts about 4 months but I've had clients have it last longer than that. I have heard that for some people, the muscles actually become used to not moving so even after the Botox has worn off, the people don't move the muscles and the skin stays smooth.

There is another botulinum toxin type A injectable treatment available similar to Botox called Xeomin.

Read about Xeomin

Restylane
Restylane is a hyaluronic acid filler. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in our bodies and keeps the skin nice and plump. Restylane is injected into lines, wrinkles and hollow areas to fill them in and plump the skin up. A filler does not stop muscle movement. It generally fills in wrinkles that are caused by gravity and loss of volume.

Restylane is made of a non animal stabilized hyaluronic acid that derived from bacteria but there is no bacteria in the final product. Again we have bacteria! There is now a whole family of Restylane products: Restylane, Restylane L, Restylane Silk, Perlane and Perlane-L. Each product is designed to treat various wrinkles such as wrinkles around the mouth or deep wrinkles.

There can be temporary swelling and bruising from the injections. Restylane lasts about 6 months but I have had clients have it last much longer especially with repeated injections.

read more about Restylane

Juvaderm is also a hyaluronic acid filler. It's a gel hyaluronic acid filler that is used to fill lines around the mouth: smile lines, marionette lines and vertical lines. It can last up to a year.

There are even more fillers. These include Juvederm Voluma, Sculpta Aesthetic and Radiesse. Each has it's own special purpose and benefit. A doctor can use both Botox and a filler in one session to treat wrinkles. The cost varies according to the area you live in and the experience of the doctor.

Creams and Massage
And me? I could use a bit of filling and plumping! But, I'll stick to my favorite Yonka anti aging skin care products and some good facial massaging for now.  The products may be a little expensive, but not as expensive and scary as getting injections!
