Good Sunscreens 2016-EWG

There are so many brands of sunscreen how do you know if the brand you are buying is safe and effective? The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has released it's 10th Annual Sunscreen Guide to help you out with your sunscreen choice. This is a guide to help us find effective safe sunscreens. There is a lot of great sunscreen and sun safety information in their guide. It's worth a look. Click here for The EWG 2016 Guide to Sunscreens . The EWG is very picky about sunscreen, which is good for all of us. The EWG really doesn't like spray sunscreens because they are not as effective as creamy formulas, high SPF sunscreens because they are misleading plus they can cause skin irritation and sunscreens containing oxybenzone (a hormone disrupting chemical) and retinyl palmitate (a chemical that may damage sun exposed skin). Products are rated from 1 to 10. 1 being the best score and 10 being the worst. My past favorites have not scored that great with them. Apparently, the

Underwater Video in Jamaica: Tropical Fish Pics

This is the beautiful world of Jamaica underwater. It's simply  magnificent! The colors are brilliant.... the water, the fish, the coral, the plants and all the other sea life.  Look at the purple on that sea fan. The deep water scares me, but it also fascinates me. We did some snorkeling during our last trip to Jamaica and got some really great GoPro video. I put all the clips together to create a relaxing video that shows the magical  undersea world.  My husband held the GoPro camera which was attached to a stick as he snorkeled. I recently saw a snorkeling mask that had a camera attached to it on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. That looks like a fabulous idea! We'll need one for our next trip. I also found a snorkeling mask that a GoPro can attach to. Those masks make it so much easier to get some great underwater footage easier. Scroll to the bottom of this post for a link! I have a few beauty tips to keep you look beautiful while you snorkel in the underwat

Prom Makeup for a Red Dress: Glitter Eyeshadow

I just did prom makeup on this beauty for her senior prom. She would be wearing a red dress accented with silver beading. She wanted glittery silver smoky eyes and chose to wear a muted red lip color. I used a silver gray shadow on her lids and added a shimmery white on top to lighten it and give it dimension. A chocolate brown shadow created smokiness and complemented her lightly tanned skin and made her blue eyes pop. Black shimmer shadow accented the outer corners of her eyes. Silver glitter added extra glitz.  I dabbed a thin layer of lash glue on top of the eye shadow to make sure the glitter would stay in place then, lightly pressed the glitter on with my finger. The red lipstick coordinated with the dress and looked nice with the smoky eye because it was soft and muted. A bright bold red would have competed too much with the glitzy eyes. Her skin looked flawless with a bit of concealer, a warm beige foundation, bronzer and a luminous finishing powder. She wore her h

Wet N Wild MegaLength Mascara Review

Lengthening mascara is my mascara formula of choice. I am not a fan of clumpy spider looking lashes.  Lengthening mascara formulas tend to have less chance for clumping than volumizing mascaras.  There are so many brands of mascara and a wide variety of price points. You can pay under $3 for a drug store brand or $50 for a Guerlain luxury mascara. I have spent up to $35 for a mascara, which is too much, but I could never justify spending $50! Update: Wet N Wild is now on the animal testing list. Wet n Wild makes a really nice lengthening mascara called Megalength Mascara. You can find it right in your local drug store for only about $2.99. It's gotten good reviews in magazines so I had some people, including myself, try it out. We tried the regular formula, not waterproof, in very black. We all found it made our lashes look great! This Wet n Wild mascara defined each lash and lengthened our lashes. There was no clumping, no smudging and no flaking. It washed off easily

Wedding Makeup and Hair Ideas for a May Bride

I had the pleasure of doing makeup for a beautiful May bride this past Saturday. The morning was cloudy, damp and chilly but spirits were bright and warm in the salon as the bride and her bridesmaids got their hair and makeup done. Many of the bridesmaids chose braided hairstyles. There was a mix of up styles and down styles. They looked amazing! The bridesmaids would be wearing pale blue dresses. Right on trend!     click here for Pantone color of the year. We chose to do makeup was clean and fresh with a gentle smokey eye and a nude pink lip. As always, I want the skin to look flawless and glowy. Look at that creamy gorgeous skin! The brides hairstyle had a fabulous reto feel about it. She wore a sparkly comb on one side. She would be wearing a veil that she would attach later. We kept her makeup clean and fresh too. The bride wanted to make her own lashes look longer so she wouldn't have to worry about false lashes. I used waterproof mascara, of course, and
