Good & Bad Sunscreens 2015-EWG

The Environmental Working Group has released it's 2016 Guide to Sunscreens. This is a guide to help us find effective safe sunscreens. The EWG really doesn't like spray sunscreens, high SPF sunscreens and sunscreens containing oxybenzone (a hormone disrupting chemical) and retinyl palmitate (a chemical that may damage sun exposed skin)!

Products are rated from 1 to 10. 1 being the best score. My favorites have not scored so well with them.

My favorite, Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch SPF 30 gets a 7 as well as Hawaiian Tropic Shimmer Effect, which just love for it's fun sparkle. Apparently, they contain oxybenzone and retinyl palmitate which are no good. Wow! At least they didn't make the Hall of Shame list. It seems the sunscreens they list as the worst, have an overall score no higher than 7. Looks like I need to get a new favorite sunscreen.

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration SPF 30 (I like that one too) got a better rating of 4.

Another one I like, Ocean Potion Protect & Nourish Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30, got an even better rating of 3.

Here is a list of a few of the brands that scored well and links to their sites.
