Finding Joy

Hello my beautiful friends! 

I have been slacking a bit on my blog posts lately. Life has been quite busy. Stressful. There is the usual working, that we all have to do to pay for everything we need in life, taking up my time. Then there is the housework, the bill paying, the grocery shopping and the cooking. Orlando is heavy on my heart today. Life can be cut short just like that. It is so unfathomable to me that an unstable, radical individual can destroy so many lives in an instant. What can be done about it? I don't think there is a clear answer. What can fix a misguided mind and an evil heart? It makes me realize that we must live our lives to the fullest and that means to have more joy in our lives because you never know what might happen.

But how do we find joy? Especially, how do we find joy when there is so much heartache in the world. Heartache, unfortunately, is part of life. In order to find joy, I think we must focus on and take time to enjoy the little things in life that make us smile and feel the warm fuzzies. It is hard to do on days of sadness. The sadness can easily linger and drag us down. We must take time to mourn then move along. We have to find the joy. We must stop and smell the roses, as the saying goes, to experience more joy.  So that means, I need to think about what makes me smile and feel happy. A list is in order to remind me of joyful things today.

My daughters certainly bring me a huge amount of joy as well as my cats, even though none of them have not chosen me as their person! Time with friends is joyful. True friends. I need to spend more time with friends and less time worrying about cleaning the house. Doing artsy and crafty things around the house is joyful but not cleaning, for me. House cleaning may bring you joy, though. If cleaning brings you joy, then clean away! An evening out with my husband at our favorite restaurant is joyful for me as well. 

A kind gentle spirit. A good sense of humor. Color is joyful. Babies. Children. A sunny warm day. A warm gentle rain. The smell of flowers in the air. The beach. The smell of the sea. Singing. Music. A warm inviting home. A glass of wine after a stressful day. Good healthy food. The elusive good night's sleep! A sexy pair of shoes. A new lipstick in just the right color. Watching someone helping some old folks exit a restaurant. Someone giving a homeless man a sandwich. The comforting of a distressed child. Being accepted just as I am and accepting you just as you are with no conditions is joy.

I'm on a roll now! I could go on and on! Now that I have taken some time to think about it, it's not really that difficult to find joy. It's a matter of taking time to experience the joy and also allowing ourselves to experience it. Many times, I think people feel that they are not allowed to be happy and joyful or that they don't deserve to be happy and joyful especially after a tragic event. This is wrong. We mourn, then move on. Don't let the sadness take over. We all deserve happiness and joy in our lives. Joy is an emotion of life to be experienced as well as sadness.

Make a list for yourself, a list of things that give you the warm fuzzies. Put it on your fridge or by your bed to look at it and remind yourself to experience more joy in your life. I know I am going to work on it. In fact, I will blog about it insure that I am doing it! Check back again soon to see what joyful and beautiful things I am up to.
