UPDATE: CoverGirl is Cruelty free! Katy Perry: Do you know the makeup you represent is tested on animals?

November 5 2018 There is huge news today in the cruelty free world! Covergirl (parent company is Coty) has announced it is Leaping Bunny certified  cruelty free  by Cruelty Free International ! 🎉🎉🎉 That means there is no animal testing in any part of the products' production from the raw materials to the finished product. According to the Leaping Bunny Standard,  "The Company shall not allow  Animal Testing  to be performed by or for submission to regulatory agencies in foreign countries."  That should mean that Covergirl is no longer sold in mainland China.  Fantastic news! I'm so excited about it, I had to go to the nearest Covergirl retail display to check out all the makeup! I don't think I have ever bought any Covergirl product. Now I can! This doesn't mean that all Coty and Coty brands are cruelty free. Just Covergirl products are certified cruelty free. But that's a big deal! Coty brands include OPI, Calvin Klein, Wella, Clairol, Rimmel...

Are cruelty free products vegan?

I recently discovered that many people don't know the answer to that question even some folks who work at Ulta. My daughter stopped in at our local Ulta store to shop for makeup for a vegan friend. Animal includes insects, too. Carmine, honey, beeswax and milk which are a few animal derived ingredients. A cosmetic may be cruelty free yet contain animal ingredients. For example, Burt's Bees is a...

Benefit Cosmetics they're Real! Lengthening Mascara Review

I received a free sample of Benefit they're Real! Mascara at Ulta. I don't use Benefit products and I will tell you why later in this post. It's not that I think they are bad products. It's that I don't agree with their policies. But, I thought let me try this sample that was given to me so that you can read the review and learn a bit about Benefit Cosmetics.  Benefit they're Real! Lengthening Mascara claims that it lengthens, curls, volumizes, lifts and separates your lashes. It has a specially designed brush to bring out all of your lashes. Does it live up to the claims? The Review  They're Real! has one of those scary mascara brushes with lots of spiky bristles. The kind of mascara wand that makes me feel like I'm going to poke my eye. I know the spiky bristles are meant to separate the lashes and bring out every little lash, but they make me nervous! I find the applicator similar to the Hello Lashes applicator. ( Read my Hello Lashes rev...
