Makeup Lesson: Crayon Red Lips

Who doesn't love crayon red lips? They are bright. They are powerful. They are sexy!

Just about everyone can rock them. Choose a red with more blue or more orange depending on you skin tone.

A matte red tends to look best on younger people. Glossy and satin reds look good on everyone and are especially good for us older people. Their sheen creates a flattering younger look.

But applying bright red lipstick can be tricky.

Reds don't always stay true to color. They may look amazing in the tube but when they are applied to the lips, the natural lip color shows through and muddies reds causing them to loose their vibrancy.

For some people, reds change color on the lips. I tend to have this problem. The pH of the skin causes changes in the lipstick color. The pH can change other lipstick colors as well.

Don't fret, friends! I have a few tips to help you get the perfect crayon red lipstick application and help the red retain it's brilliance. I have also included some Amazon Affiliate links to help you find the best beauty products.

How to Apply Bright Crayon Red Lipstick

Apply Lip Balm
Apply thick layer of lip balm to condition the lips and build up a protective waxy barrier to help prevent the pH color change. Wait 5 minutes and blot it off the excess.

Apply Foundation
Apply foundation using a makeup sponge your lips, the lip line and the area around your mouth. This will help conceal the natural lip color and will add to the barrier to prevent the pH color change.

Apply Clear Lip Liner
Some people trouble with lipstick bleeding or feathering out of the lip line. Clear lip liner will help stop the feathering. If you have lines around you mouth or you just have a problem with your lipstick feathering, apply clear lip liner to the edges of the lip line. You can skip this step if you do not have this problem.

Apply Red Lip Liner
Apply a red lip liner to your lip line. Choose a color that is close to your lipstick color. Lightly fill in the lips with the liner.

Powder the Edges
Dip a cotton swab in translucent power and carefully trace the outside of the lip liner. This will keep the liner and lipstick in place and increase the wear.

Apply the Lipstick
Use a lip brush to apply the lipstick in a smooth even layer staying in the lip line.  The brush helps press the lipstick into all of the lip crevices.

Blot
Lightly blot your lips with a tissue removing the excess that may end up on your teeth.

It may seem like a lot just to put on some lipstick, but this is red we are talking about. It must be perfect.

I have a few beautiful bright crayon red lipsticks to recommend for you. All cruelty free of course!

What is Thalassotherapy?

Thalassotherapy is a spa treatment that utilizes warm salt water and sea products to allow the skin to absorb trace minerals such as iodine, zinc, potassium and magnesium.

It also increases blood and lymphatic circulation, boosts the immune system, reduces inflammation, detoxifies, and is antibacterial.

The word Thalassotherapy comes from the Greek words Thalassa, which means sea, and Therapeia, which means healing.

This ancient healing treatment includes hydrotherapy which includes soaking in sea water, applying sea water to the body, or soaking in a seaweed bath.

It also includes Algotherapy which is the application of algae and sea products to the body in the form of seaweed and mud wraps or masks.

Sand exfoliating treatments are also a included  as Thalassotherapy.

Thalassotherapy is often used as a cellulite treatment because it is excellent for the elimination of toxins. Seaweed wraps are known for their anti cellulite properties. Apply sea mud to areas that have cellulite, wrap yourself with plastic wrap and let the seaweed do it's magic!

You can also experience Thalassotherapy at home by adding 2 cups of sea salt to a warm bathtub. You can also use seaweed powder in your warm bath. It is packed full of sea minerals to nourish and detoxify. Relax, soak for 20 minutes and be rejuvenated!

The best form of Thalassotherapy for me is a trip to Jamaica. Just let me float in the warm Caribbean Sea!

Makeup Lesson: Hide a Blemish

Have a party?  Need to hide that nasty zit! Start with a little Visine to get the red out!  Put a bit of Visine on a Q tip.  Hold the Q tip on the blemish for a minute.  Let the skin dry.  Apply your foundation by patting and blending it on with a sponge.  Using a small, flat makeup brush, apply a thin coat of a thick concealer to the blemish patting around the edges to blend. Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage or Physicians Formula Concealer 101 Perfecting Concealer Duo are examples of thick concealers.  Let it sit a minute.  Apply another thin coat if needed.  Finish with a light dusting of translucent powder to set the makeup.
