Gigi Charcoal Detox Wax to Remove Blackheads

Gigi has caught on to a waxing trick my fellow beauty salon colleagues and I have done for years! We use wax to unclogged the pores.  Wax, the kind used for hair removal, is great for pulling out blackheads, especially from the nose and chin. Gigi first created Pore Refining Facial Wax.  This wax has been discontinued but they have replaced it with Gigi Charcoal Detox Wax to remove facial hair plus help unclog the pores.  This is a hard wax which means it is warmed, applied to the skin, allow to cool a bit, then pulled off. It pulls off unwanted hair plus oil that is hardened and is clogging the pores. Shop for Gigi Products on Amazon You will need a wax warmer at home to melt the wax. Gigi makes a space saver wax warmer that is smaller than their standard wax warmer. It's a nice size to have at home. Waxing is a messy process.  Avoid the mess and hassle of waxing at home by visiting your salon or spa. Ask your waxing technician o...

Leg and Bikini Waxing FAQ

Waxing leaves your legs smooth and beautiful. I have many clients who wax their legs, bikini areas and underarms consistently.  They see a significant reduction in the amount of hair they have. The skin feels silky smooth with no stubble, showers are quicker since no shaving is needed, there are no stinging legs when you go into the salty sea water like you can get on freshly shaved legs plus, there is no shadow of dark hairs showing through the skin because the hair is removed by the root.  People who have never waxed before have many questions about waxing.  Here are some questions people frequently ask me: Do I have to grow the hair? Yes. Hairs that are too short cannot become embedded in the wax so the can't be pulled out. How long does the hair have to be? The hardest part of waxing is when you first start. The hair must be 1/8"-1/4" long so the wax can adhere to it and pull it out.  That's about 10-14 days of growth. Make your waxing appointm...

Styles of Bikini Waxing made Easy

The Hollywood, The Sphinx, The French, The Playboy. There are so many different names for the various styles of bikini waxing, it makes life confusing. I've been waxing people for more than 30 years and even I'm confused!  Let's make it simple shall we?  There are three basic types of bikini waxing. The Bikini Line Waxing, The Full Bikini Waxing and The Brazilian Waxing. All can vary a bit according to how much hair you want removed. Hair can be removed from the front section (the pubic bone area), the middle section (the labia area) and the back section (between the butt cheeks). The Bikini Line Wax Hair is removed from outside of the panty line and just inside the panty line, top and sides. You get a cleaned up triangle shape, Full Bikini Wax Hair is removed from the front and the middle far inside the panty line. It's high on the sides. You can have a landing strip. This can be a French bikini wax which means most of the hair is removed from the front le...

Pink Armpit Hair Removal!

First it was Lady Gaga with blue armpit hair. Now we have Miley Cyrus with pink armpit hair. I don't know about you, but I remove armpit hair no matter what color it is! 😆 Waxing in my favorite choice for hair removal. It is quite annoying to let the hair grow to be waxed, but it is well worth it. I can get your underarms super smooth!  See me at Styling Point in Media, Pa.! There is no dark shadow left behind like there is with shaving. There is no stubble. The skin is left super smooth. The more you wax, the finer the hair gets. I have a client I have been consistently waxing for many years. She has very little underarm hair now. The underarm area is an awkward diy project. Visit a salon for a quick underarm wax. It should take 10 to 20 minutes depending on the amount and stubbornness of the hair. Underarm Waxing Tips Hair should be no longer than 1/2" so give it a trim if it is long. Your waxer can trim it for you if the idea of sharp scisso...

Hives from Waxing

Once in a while, I have a client who experiences hives immediately after a waxing. They can be small itchy bumps right where hairs were or larger welts that look like mosquito bites. The hives only last a short time. An hour at most. Typically, hives on the area that was waxed first, are already fading by the time the waxing service is completed.  This is a histamine reaction. The body is reacting to the hairs being pulled out. The body is perceiving the hair removal as a threat. The immune system springs into action producing histamine to fight the threat, like an allergic reaction. Does this mean my client was allergic to the wax? No. The body is reacting to the irritation of the hair being pulled out not the wax itself, producing inflammation and hives as a defense mechanism. Calm the Reaction There are some things you can do to calm the reaction. You could take an anti histamine allergy medication such as Zyrtec before you get waxed. After waxing, apply a thin layer of an ...

Paraffin vs Hair Removal Wax

Q. My salon offers paraffin wax treatments. Is paraffin wax the same as the wax they use for hair removal? A. Paraffin wax and hair removal wax are two different types of wax. Paraffin wax is a soft non sticky wax. It is a petroleum product like petroleum jelly. Candles can be made of paraffin. It is used in salons and spas as a treatment for dry skin and as therapy for arthritis. Paraffin hand dips are very popular. The hands are dipped into hot paraffin wax, then placed in plastic bags. Hand mitts can also be added over the plastic bags. To avoid many hands being dipped into the same wax, some salons ladle the melted paraffin into plastic bags and then place the bags on the hands of their client. The paraffin wax cools and solidifies and is easily removed from the hands. The hands are left warm and moisturized. It is fabulous on feet too! Hair removal waxes  are sticky or they harden. They usually made from resin. The wax is applied to the sk...

Facial Waxing and Makeup Adhesion

Plan your facial waxing carefully or you may have trouble with makeup adhesion for your party or special event.  You would think it's a good idea to have your lip and brow waxing done right before your event so you look nice and hair free.  Think again!  Makeup may slide right off freshly waxed skin! Dead skin cells are exfoliated when the wax is pulled off during the hair removal leaving the skin super smooth.  Your f oundation and eye makeup  may not stick on those smooth freshly waxed areas on your face such as your upper lip, chin or brows.  I have had it happen when applying prom makeup.  The prom girl shows up with a freshly upper lip and foundation just slides right off leaving a weird looking shiny spot.  Remedy for makeup not sticking to freshly waxed skin It takes a bit of my favorite eye shadow primer (Urban Decay Primer Potion), foundation, powder and a light touch to get it to stick. It's quite a challenge. Apply Primer Yo...
