Blemishes from your Phone?

Having a break out on your chin and cheeks? Your phone could be the culprit! Bacteria, oils and makeup can build up on your phone, transfer onto your clean face and cause blemishes. Clean your cell phone (and house phone) regularly. I use alcohol on a soft cloth to  clean my phone.

How to Thin Thick Nail Poish

If your nail polish is thick, don't add nail polish remover to it. Add nail polish thinner. Solvents slowly evaporate from nail polish while the bottle is open during use causing it to get thick. Replace the solvent to thin the polish. Polish thinner contains the solvent that is in nail polish. Polish remover is a different chemical altogether.

Eyeliner Application Tip

Eyeliner helps make your lashes look fuller when placed right in the lash line. If you have trouble getting your eyeliner right in your lash line, use a finger to lift the skin just under your eyebrow while applying your liner. This pulls the eyelid skin (that is not as tight as it used to be!) up allowing you to get your liner right at the lash line. Try a pencil eyeliner. It is the easiest to work with.

Moles and Spots

Skin cancer is on the rise. Keep an eye on your skin. Here is a chart I have had for years. I have found it helpful for recognizing what a suspicious spot looks like.
Examine your skin frequently checking for anything that doesn't look quite right.
Get to your doctor if you notice a spot has changed in color or size.
Have your skin checked by a dermatologist yearly.

Morgan Taylor Lacquer Review

Morgan Taylor Professional Nail Lacquer is from the manufacturers Gelish. (Gelish is a light cured soak off gel polish.)

Morgan Taylor Lacquer is DBP (dibutyl phthalate), toluene and formaldehyde free. There are 100 unique colors to choose from in glitters, metallics and creams. It was recently shown on the runways at fashion week.

My salon got a sample to try. The colors look great on the color chart!

I wanted to love it, but it was chipped on my fingernails within 24 hours. Know this, I am notorious for chipping polish, even gel polish!

A client also had the same chipping situation.

It is holding up on my toes beautifully, though.

I tried Hot, Hot Tamale. It went on smooth with nice coverage. I loved the richly pigmented color and the glossy shine. I'm not sure about the ergonomic cap. It is very smooth. There is no texture to it making it a bit slippery if you have remnants of lotion on your hands.

Here is the important question for me and my it tested on animals? I don't know. I sent an email to back on June 18 asking but got no reply. I sent another one and am still waiting for a reply.

If it is not animal tested, I would use it again, but only on my toes because of how quickly it chipped on my fingernails. Here is a link to their site:

Q&A: Hide Wrinkles

Visit Jill's Beauty Adventures

Q. What is the best way to hide my wrinkles!

A. To camouflage those wrinkles start with a good moisturizer. Let is sink in. Next, apply a face primer containing silicone. The primer will float on top of the skin making wrinkles less noticeable. Then, apply your foundation sparingly with a moist sponge. Too much will settle in creases. Dab off excess foundation with a clean moist sponge for a natural look. Then, apply concealer lightly just where needed. For instance, cover only the dark circle not the entire under eye. Too much concealer will also settle in creases.  Finally, apply a very light coating of translucent powder with a brush.

Mascara Tip: Comb Lashes

Do you have trouble with your lashes sticking together when you apply mascara? Try combing your lashes with a lash comb or an old clean mascara wand before applying your mascara then, comb again between each coat while the mascara is still wet.

Fat Flush Fruit Water Recipe

Water infused with fruit and herbs is all the rage. It's cool, refreshing and has good for you vitamins too. I saw this recipe for Fat Flush Water. Does it flush fat? I don't know, but it sounds good! Drink at least three 8 oz. glasses per day. It becomes more flavorful the longer it sits. They say, try it for 10 days.

Fat Flush Water

24 oz water
3 slices of grapefruit
3 tangerines
1 1/2 cucumbers
6 peppermint leaves

Wash grapefruit, tangerine, cucumber and peppermint leaves well. Slice cucumber and grapefruit. You can also slice the tangerines or peel and section them. Gently crumple the peppermint leaves to release their oils. Combine water, fruits and mint into a large pitcher and add ice. Makes 3 servings.

Avoid Flavored Lip Balm

Visit Jill's Beauty Adventures
Lip balm comes in all sorts of yummy flavors.  You've got Cherry Chapstick, Korres Mango Lip Butter and Bubblegum Lipsmackers..... just to name a few. These yummy flavors may tempt to lick that lip balm right off. The more you lick your lips, the more chapped they become! Stick to unflavored balms. Also, look for a balm that has SPF in it to protect your lips from sunburn.

Eye Rubbing & Dark Circles

Visit Jill's Beauty Adventures

It feel so good to give your tired, itchy allergy eyes a good firm rub. Resist! Don't do it! The skin may build up pigment from the rubbing causing the skin to darken making those dark circles even darker.

How to apply Self Tanner

foot print
If you are using lots of sunscreen like you should be to keep your skin healthy and beautiful, you won't have the dark golden tan that you want.

So, add color with self tanner!

The picture above is the deck at a beach house we rented in Sea Isle City, NJ. Someone before us used the deck to get their spray tan on!😂

There are cream, mousse and spray self tanner formulas. All create a nice tan. The formula is your preference. There are also different strength formula for the color tan you want such as medium or medium dark.

Some self tanners are tinted so you can see exactly where you have applied it. The tint will wash off in the shower. Don't worry, it's not your tan washing off!

The tan will take a few hours to develop. The ingredient is self tanners is dihydroxyacetone. It is actually a naturally derived ingredient from plants including sugar beets and sugar cane. The dihydroxyacetone interacts with the amino acids in the top layers of the skin causing it to darken. It doesn't damage the skin in any way.

People with sensitive skin should do a patch test on a small area before applying self tanner all over to sure their skin isn't irritated by it.

Here are some application tips to get a gorgeous fake tan.

How to Apply Self Tanner

Exfoliate First
Exfoliate your skin well with a dry body brush before you shower or use a body scrub in the shower. Concentrate on thick skin areas such as the feet and knees.

Apply a light film of moisturizer. This will help prevent pores from darkening too much causing them to stand out.

Oil Thick Skin

Apply a thin layer of an oil or thick moisturizer to feet, knees and other areas of thickened skin so they don't get too dark.

Wear Gloves

Wear gloves to keep your palms from turning dark during application.

Apply self tanner sparingly on areas of thick and/or calloused skin such as the feet, ankles, knees, elbows, knuckles, etc.

Cream Self Tanner Application

Work on one section of the body at a time. For your legs, do the calf, then do the thigh. For the arms, do the lower arm, then do the upper arm and so on. You have more control going section by section.

Put a quarter sized dollop of the cream self tanner in the palm of your gloved hand. Then, apply it to your skin massaging it in a circular motion evenly over one section of your body. Use both of your gloved hands to smooth and massage the self tanner over the skin until it's well blended. Move along section by section.

Any thick areas of the tanner will look blotchy or streaky so massage it in really well. One good layer is usually enough. Do a second coat after the first layer has dried if you are looking for more color.

Spray Self Tanner Application

Spray the tanner on section by section holding the can 12"-14" from your skin.

Use long strokes to apply a thin layer of tanner. You will still need use your gloved hands to smooth out the spray in a circular motions. Let it dry. Then, you can apply another thin layer if you want. Do not spray your face. Spray the tanner onto a sponge and apply it to your face.

Be careful where you are while applying your spray tan. The over spray gets everywhere!  I like to spray tan outside or in the shower with the shower curtain closed so I can wash off

the shower when I am done.

Read How to Apply Spray Tanner to your Face

Let it dry

Wait until tanner is dry before dressing. Avoid contact with water for 4-6 hours. The initial colorant will wash off when you shower but a nice tan will remain.  The fake will gradually wear off like a real tan does.

Reapply every 3-4 days to keep your tan.

are my favorite self tanner brands.

Remember, this is a fake tan. It offers you no protection from the sun. Be sure to wear sunscreen over your fake tan when you are out in the sun.

Keep your skin beautifully tan and free from sun damage by getting a fake tan!
