Summer Wedding Makeup: Tips for Sweat Proof Makeup at The Westin Wilmington

I had the pleasure of doing some onsite wedding makeup this past weekend. The beautiful bride was planning an outdoor ceremony at The Westin Wilmington, Delaware on one of the hottest days of this summer. Sweat proof makeup that would withstand the summer heat and last all day was definitely required! The beautiful bridal suite in The Westin, where we did the makeup application, was bright, roomy and very well appointed for entertaining I must say.
The bride's gown was a stunning trumpet/mermaid strapless
sweetheart gown in shimmering off white lace.
The bridesmaid dresses were shades of beige, brown and pink in various styles. I can't wait to see pictures of everyone!

For the bride's makeup, we chose a soft smokey eye in pink and shades of brown and a soft pink lip to coordinate with the wedding color theme. The shadow colors really complimented her dark brown eyes.

She's a Gorgeous Summer Bride!
She wanted fabulous lashes. She already had great lashes. We decided to forgo strip lashes and just enhance her own lashes. To get her own lashes more fabulous, I applied waterproof mascara, added lash fibers to the mascara to help extend her natural lashes a bit then, I added a few knotted lash flares to the outer lashes to add a little more drama.

A hot summer day requires special makeup application techniques to keep your makeup looking fresh throughout the whole wedding day.

Use a light moisturizer before applying primer and foundation. A heavy moisturizer will be occlusive and may create too much shine on a hot day.

A mattifying face primer should be used on oily skin to keep shine down.

An eye shadow primer is also important to prevent shadow from creasing and slipping out of place. My very favorite shadow primer is Urban Decay Primer Potion.

Use waterproof mascara and eye liner. Waterproof products won't budge when the skin sweats. It is possible that they can smudge when the skin get oily though. Oils dissolve waterproof mascara.

Matte Foundation

Use a matte or semi matte foundation. Avoid a foundation that is too luminous. It can look sweaty instead of glowy.

Double Blush
Use a cream blush topped with a dusting of powder blush for super staying power. Both blushes should be similar colors.

Face Powder

Application of face powder is necessary to keep shine down. Use a brush to dust on an even layer. Dust on a second layer for extra shine protection. Using a powder puff applicator may lay down an uneven layer of powder and look blotchy.

Setting Spray

A makeup setting spray will help hold all the makeup in place when the skin sweats. Apply it after makeup application is complete.

Blotting Papers

Carry these with to use throughout the day. Use the blotting papers to absorb sweat and oil from your face without disturbing your foundation. Blot, don't rub, then, dust on a thin layer of face powder if you look still look shiny.

These makeup tips will help you stay fresh looking all day long!

Tattoo Ideas and Tattoo Coverup

I had two lovely ladies come into the salon for facials the other day. A mother and daughter. The mom had facials in the past but the daughter never had one. Mom thought getting facials would be a special thing that she could do with her daughter since her daughter does so many things with her friends. A moisturzing hand massage is included in my facials and every once in a while I find a fun surprise.... a little hidden tattoo!

As I massaged the daughter's hand I spied words on the underside of her wrist. Toora Loora Li. Words from An Irish Lullaby. I didn't ask about it. I just enjoyed seeing it and created a story in my head about it.

Many employers don't allow tattoos to be visible, so little hidden tattoos are perfect.

The underside of the wrist is a great area to place a not so obvious tattoo. The ankle is easy to hide too.

The ribs are perfectly hidden for work. Well, for most jobs anyway!

Many people get tattoos that have special meaning. Tattoos in honor of someone or in memory of someone or a pet. It makes them extra special. Joyful little pieces of art!

But not everyone sees them as joyful. My parents for instance. During our family beach vacations, I hear many comments from them as they people watch on the beach. "Oh! Look at that one. It's disgusting." or the classic, "If God wanted people to have tattoos, he would have put them there." Bahahaha! Little do they know, I have a hidden tattoo of my own!

On one of our many family beach vacations, my sister and I decided it would be a fabulous idea to put tattoo decals on our lower backs. Not only on us, but on our teenage daughters as well. Then, we planned to show up at the beach after Mom and Dad had settled in for their people watching. It couldn't have gone more perfectly. Well, actually it would have been more perfect if a video camera was rolling to catch their reactions.

In a nutshell, they freaked out. Mom said, "Oh Jill! You got a tattoo. How revolting." We told them there was a buy get, one free deal on the boardwalk so our girls got one too. Other people were actually enjoying the show from their beach blankets. What a spectacle!  Mom caught on pretty quickly though and spoiled the fun. She realized they were decals, but we would have had Dad going all day!!! Here's a pic!

I feared for my niece when they would see her real tattoos this year during our family beach vacation, but oddly enough, there were no comments. Either they saw them and chose to keep their mouths shut or their eyesight is really bad at this point!!!

Sometimes you just have to cover a tattoo up to avoid a scene. In fact, that niece of mine just got a new job as a server in a restaurant.  She was told she has to cover the tattoo on her forearm. It's easy to cover a small tattoo and keep it covered all day with the right makeup. I have covered small tattoos with makeup for clients for special occasions in a flash.

Now you see it. Now you don't!

Large tattoos take some serious time to cover. You had better get a job that allows tattoos to show!!!

Beach Decorating Ideas

I am feeling so inspired after returning from a fabulous family vacation In Sea Isle City, NJ. We stayed at an absolutely gorgeous beach house that was brand new and decorated perfectly! The 3rd floor, which was the living area, consisted of the living room, kitchen, dining area and powder room complete with a spectacular beach view. It was decorated with a modern neutral palette with splashes of coral, both coral color and coral shapes. Now I want to redo my whole house to give it a fun, fresh more beautiful look!

Here are some pics to give you some beachy decorating ideas to use in your home.
