Feathery Brows and Brow Gel

dramatic brow
Eyebrows have been very bold, thick, filled in, defined, arched, and clean in recent years. Many people actually use a brow stencil to get the well defined symmetrical look. Those clean bold brows work well with dramatic makeup but require time at the makeup mirror and are not casual or natural looking.

In case you haven't noticed, we have had a bohemian hippie influence that has been trending for the past few years with flowy dresses and tops reminiscent of the 60's and 70's. Those stenciled sculpted brows just don't jive with the free and easy bohemian style.

A softer, more natural look is needed for a proper boho look. Try the softer feathery brow look.

The brows are still thicker and softly arched but they don't have a hard clean stenciled line. Visible hairs soften the line. I want to call them stray hairs, but they are more like controlled strays that soften the edges of the brows.

The brow hairs are brushed up to get a soft feathery look. The brushed up brow look was popular back in the 80's, you know, that thick, wild Brooke Shield brow look. The brushed up look today is much cleaner and more controlled than the Brooke Shield's look from back in the day.

How to Get the Feathered Brow Look

Brush up  & Clean up

Start by brushing your brows upwards.

You can use a brow brush or a mascara spoolie to brush the hairs up. Tweeze out any wild strays that are way out of the brow line.

Smooth a bit
Now use the brow brush or spoolie to smooth the hairs over a bit so they are not super straight up. Keep the inner, thicker half of the brow brushed up more than the outer half.

Fill in
Use a sharp brow pencil that is close to or slightly darker than your natural brow hair color. Make fine hair like strokes. Follow the shape you created when you smoothed the brow a bit in the previous step. Don't fill the brows in completely. Leave little spaces for a softer natural look.

Gel it
Apply brow gel to hold the hairs in place and give the brow hairs a healthy looking sheen. You can use a clear brow gel or a colored brow gel for bolder color and to cover gray hair. Don't be tempted to pull out your gray eyebrow hairs. You will make your brows look too sparse.

Brow Gels to Try:

Try Anastasia Clear Brow Gel if you would like to use a good clear brow gel.

Tart Busy Gal Brows Tinted Brow Gel if you would like a good tinted brow gel.

A tinted brow gel is the best for really coating and hiding any gray eyebrow hairs. It's also great if you feel your brow hairs are just too light or you want to make your brows look fuller without using a brow pencil. You can match your hair color or go slightly darker than your hair color.

Both of these brow gels are packaged like mascara in a tube of the product with an applicator brush wand.

I find both of these gels go on smoothly. They dry with no hard or sticky feeling. They both hold up well through the day with no flaking. They also remove easily with facial cleanser and water.

Use only a thin layer of the Anastasia Clear Brow Gel. I find using too much causes the brow hairs to stick together and look unnatural.

The Tarte Busy Gal Brows Tinted Brow Gel is buildable which means you can built up the color and coverage with multiple coats. It will also color the skin if you want a more filled in look. It doesn't cause the brow hairs to stick together when you add more coats.

That's all there is to it. Soft and easy feathery brows.

My brows are a littler thinner than I want them to be. Brows tend to get thinner as we age due to hormone and thyroid changes. Thicker brows are more the style but you can get the brushed up feathery look even if your brows are thinner like mine.

Some people have had success stimulating more brow hairs to grow by using a brow serum or just simple castor oil.

Apply GrandeBrow Brow Enhancing Serum or Organic Castor Oil the skin under your eyebrows once a day at bedtime. It will take several months to see an improvement so you have to be patient.

Are you afraid you will mess up your brows reshaping them? See me at Styling Point in Media, Pa for a brow shaping.

White Bumps Under Eyes: Milia

Have you noticed that you have little white looking bumps under your eyes? Some people call it chicken skin because the bumps look like plucked chicken skin. 🐔 Most likely those little white bumps are milia. They can feel hard or pearly. These bumps are not acne. Milia can occur when dead skin cells become trapped beneath the outer layer of skin. Keratin becomes trapped and builds up. A small benign cyst can form which is the milia. It's a cyst!?! Don't let that word scare you. They are harmless, but unwanted bumps.  They can occur on any area of the skin that tends to be on the dry side. They cannot be squeezed out like a blackhead or pimple because they have no opening. A layer of skin covers them. A hole must be created in them using a needle, then they can be extracted out. Read more about blackhead, whiteheads and blind pimples This is a common problem for the under-eye area. It is a dry, delicate area of the skin. I see it a lot on my clients. Heavy products

Dermatofibromas

This post is all about dermatofibromas and some remedies to help make them look better and ways hide them. It includes my Amazon Affiliate Links to help you find the products I talk about. Q. I have this brown bump on my leg that won't go away. What can I do about it? A. It could be a dermatofibroma. I see them often on my leg waxing clients. A dermatofibroma is a tan to brown benign raised bump more common in women than men and occur commonly on the legs. The bump feels hard under the skin and can be itchy, tender and easily irritated. A doctor will tell you not to worry about it because it's benign, but it's kind of ugly! Dermatofibromas are also called Benign Fibrous Histiocytomas. They are the result of some sort of injury to the skin such as an ingrown hair or a bug bite.  Be careful when shaving because a dermatofibroma may bleed and become sore if nicked. Don't think you can get rid of it by shaving it off. It will be an awful looking sore and will j

Dermatofibroma on Leg

A Dermatofibroma is an unsightly brown or red bump that is very common on the legs. They are also called Benign Fibrous Histiocytomas and are more common in women than men. They can hurt, itch and become inflamed easily. They are the result of some sort of injury to the skin such as an ingrown hair or a bug bite.  I have tried lots of home remedies on my dermatofibroma. Some help it look better than others but the ugly thing is still there! Read more about dermatofibroma remedies. There is only one way to remove it for good...surgery. It must be surgically excised out. A dermatofibroma goes deep into the skin. It will only grow back if it is cut off of the skin at surface level. The problem with the removal is it leaves a long scar that is about 2 inches or so long. It has to be done that way to be able to sew the skin back together so it is smooth and not puckery. Here is a picture of a scar from the removal of a dermatofibroma. This scar was also treated with a laser to imp
